I was born in 1971 at the Nix Hospital in downtown San Antonio, Texas. I am the son of a native Texan and my Father’s side of the family can trace its roots back to the Republic of Texas.

We settled on the Northeast side of San Antonio and I graduated from Churchill High School. Upon graduation, I was accepted to Texas A&M University. Unfortunately, during my junior year my Father had some serious health issues so I returned to San Antonio to help him with his business and completed college at St. Mary’s University.

After graduating, I continued to help my Father with his businesses. However, I could never shake the feeling that I had left unfinished business in College Station. So in 1996 I entered Texas A&M’s MBA program. Upon graduating from the MBA program I accepted an invitation to SMU’s School of Law. The first day at SMU was one of the most important days of my life, because on that fateful summer day in 1998, I met Laura Coorpender, a Denton girl, whom I married during our third year of law school.

During Law School, I was on the Dean’s List, the SMU Law Review, a member of the Board of Advocates, the Christian Legal Society, Phi Delta Phi (the legal honor fraternity), a Research Assistant, Academic Tutor and finally graduated Cum Laude. During my the summer between my second and third year, I was a summer associate at Jackson Walker, a large Texas law firm, and Jones Day, a large international law firm. Although I accepted the invitation to join Jones Day, I did find my experiences at Jackson Walker valuable, especially the importance they placed on civil trial advocacy.

Almost immediately after graduation I took and passed the Texas Bar and began my legal career as an Associate at Jones Day working for Fortune 500 Companies, including Colt Fire Arms and Texas Instruments. Unfortunately, in the spring of the following year my Father was diagnosed with a form of lymphoma, and underwent surgery that resulted in a one-month stay in the hospital and several rounds of Chemo Therapy. By this time my Father was in his late sixties and his energy level was extremely low. He again asked me to help him with his businesses, which I did and I took an extended leave of absence from Jones Day. After about six months and the completion of his treatments, my Father offered to help me start up my own law practice, so that is exactly what Laura and I did.

Laura and I have two great kids and have grown a very successful practice in the areas of probate, guardianship, family law and general civil litigation. We attend FBC Lewisville where I serve as a Deacon, and I am a trustee of the Denton County Baptist Association. I have served on the board of non-profits such as Children’s Advocacy Center, Health Services of North Texas and PediPlace. As you know, I am a committed Republican, an officer in the party, the President of one of our Republican Clubs and an officer in another. I am also a member of the Heritage Foundation, the NRA, and I believe in the strict construction of the Federal Constitution.
