Week 5: Family Values / Religion (each Question 100 words Max).

QUESTION 1. What role does your faith play, if any, in your position as an elected official?
ANSWER:  My faith plays a prominent role in my life. My beliefs define who I am and how I make decisions. As a Christian, I also believe in Heaven and Hell, I am concerned more about Right vs. Wrong rather than Right vs. Left. It has to do with priorities in my life: God/Jesus First, others second, myself last. I am not perfect by any means. I make mistakes and have worries like everyone else. It is how I use the teachings of Jesus Christ that help me in this life so that I can look forward to the afterlife.

QUESTION 2. Should events like the National Day of Prayer, or other events religious in nature, be allowed to take place in city hall?
ANSWER: Yes. Religion and morality are indispensible to this nation for a successful government. This Country was created based on Christian principles. It was an uprising from the pulpits that helped the colonists rise up against the King of England. I believe the Founding Fathers expected God to be in our daily lives as God was in their lives. Prayer is a way for people to communicate with God and keep him a priority. Since we are not perfect, it is prayer and asking for divine guidance from God that will help us make the best decisions that we can.

QUESTION 3. Should family values come into play when making decisions affecting your city?
ANSWER: Yes. In society, it is the family unit that brings stability to the population. Fathers and Mothers raising their children, teaching them Right from Wrong, and helping them learn to be successful in what they do. It seems throughout our nation’s history that family values were an important part of family life and it seems that in the last 30 years family values have changed or lost its priority. We should do what we can to bring back the sense of family and the importance of the family unit. It is the family that fulfills the need of belonging to the individual.

QUESTION 4. Explain what family values mean to you.
ANSWER: I have the traditional concept and image of family values: The family unit communicating and working together to help each other, parents teaching children to respect and honor God in their lives, to keep them mentally awake, and morally straight, and to become good citizens. This also includes doing things together which keeps that family bond strong. It is important for families to be in a place that they can be safe and thrive. Families should work together to make the world (and especially the community) a better place.
