Subject: Letter to the Editors / Opinion (Lewisville Leader)
Lewisville City Council Race: Lathan Watts for Place 3
Date: Published on 04-25-2007In response to your
editorial/endorsement. I commend Aljoe on his service. Regardless of
Aljoe's length of residency and involvement, he IS NOT the best
candidate for Lewisville. Issues are important to Citizens. What
will candidates vote For/Against? See the Candidate Quiz:
http://www.vgt2004.org/a-dallas07/ to compare their answers.
At a recent forum, Lathan Watts was the ONLY candidate who did
not make me feel like blood was going to shoot out of my eyes. Watts
was logical, educated on topics, answered directly & completely, and
did not grand stand like others. Watts is concerned about taxes,
economic development, and spending money wisely.
Aljoe’s views/plans are not in our best interest. The candidates
responded nearly the same on questions except for one topic: ‘Day
Laborer’ Site. Aljoe enthusiastically stated he supports spending
money for a ‘Day Laborer’ site (~$138K) and facility (more money).
(SEE CLARIFICATION OF
MONEY). This is a waste of money. Lathan Watts stated he does not support
spending tax payer money on a project like the 'day laborer' site
because it is not in best interest of the Citizens. This was
followed by much applause of those attending the forum.
It is common knowledge that most of these 'day laborers' are NOT
here legally, therefore, Aljoe encourages breaking the law by
encouraging others to come illegally. If you build it, they will
come. Council members should not do this as it is an example of POOR
leadership and bad money management. Spend the money to hire police
officers to enforce the laws. This would benefit the citizens more.
I am an American-Hispanic Citizen of Lewisville. This is NOT a
Race issue - it is a Legal issue. With the credentials & ISSUES in
mind, I recommend that voters support Lathan Watts for Place 3 on
City Council on May 12, 2007.
