02-26-2008: "What do YOU think the
important LOCAL issues are in your city?" Is the question I
asked to the Gorena.org email list so that I can make a poll
question here.
The Answers were mostly about Illegal Aliens but Here are few of the
answers that I have received:
- People running red lights (Lewisville)
- Illegal aliens are over taxing our Schools, and community
(Lewisville)
- Added to Illegal Alien issue: Lewisville is quickly becoming the
ghetto of North Texas
- Property Taxes Too high (Flower Mound, Corinth, Frisco, 3 unknown
cities)
- Lewisville is quickly becoming the ghetto of North Texas.
(Lewisville)
- I would add: illegal aliens loitering on the strip mall located on
the service road of I-35, before Fox Avenue. (Lewisville)
- Parking in some of the neighborhood streets makes passage
difficult (Lewisville).
- Smoking in public places.
- The local economy
My Opinion: As for the suggestions for the poll, I want to
make an observation. About 75% were related to Illegal Aliens. I
noticed all but one were from Lewisville. I admit that most on the
list are from Lewisville but I know at least 25 people on the list
are not. Do the people that replied from other Cities around
Lewisville not see the problem? I think they do not live with the
problem. I do not think Highland Village or Flower Mound see this
Illegal Alien issue as a problem because they really do not live in
those cities like they do in Lewisville. I think they work in those
cities as day laborer type jobs but they probably live in Lewisville
because we have more apartments and lower priced housing. Again,
just my opinion.

Here are some more remarks from readers:
- I think in Farmers Branch our biggest problem is illegal
aliens. They are taxing our school system, destroying our
neighborhoods (from lack of pride) and their refusal to
assimilate to our society. On the contrary, they want US to
assimilate to their culture. The school system is forced to
accommodate them by providing signage in Spanish, interpreters
at meetings and so on.
- A corrupt government, and Illegal Aliens who are bankrupting
the taxpayer and rapidly destroying what was once excellence in
education....
