Toy Drive Announcement (11-25-2011):  "Young Heroes of the Guard" toy drive.  It is time once again for our annual Texas State Guard "Young Heroes of the Guard" toy drive. This is the 3rd year that we have done this and the response has been great.
We are taking toy donations until December 15th (15DEC2011), as we will be passing these out on Saturday December 17th to children that are confined in area hospitals: Cook Children’s, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, Our Children’s House at Baylor and Children’s Medical Center.
Gifts do not have to be expensive, or huge.  If your place of business would like to be involved, please read the Letter describing the program. Currently, you can drop off toys at:

Please tell them Thank You for participating.

Thank You,

John Gorena, Warrant Officer,  TXSG, 4th RGT, S6, CA

FAQ's about Toy Drive

WHO: The 4th Civil Affairs Regiment and the 4th Air Wing of The Texas State Guard

WHAT: The Young Heroes of the Guard Toy Drive for Texas Children’s Hospitals (in our area: Cook Children’s in Ft. Worth, Our Children’s House at Baylor in Dallas, and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas).

WHY: To deliver new toys to children that will hospitalized this Christmas in children’s hospitals in the D/FW area. Also, excess toys will be used by the hospitals throughout the year (until they run out of toys).

HISTORY: This will be the 3rd year for this Toy Drive. In 2009 we collected (and distributed) 2,444 toys… In 2010 we collected (and distributed) 3,558 toys… (FYI: This past Saturday the Texas State Guard Headquarters in Austin delivered 755 toys to Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin)

WHEN: Toys will be delivered this Friday and Saturday, 16 & 17 Dec. 2011

WHERE: Texas State Guard personnel will be delivering toys to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas (Friday 16 Dec.) and Cook Children’s in Ft. Worth and Our Children’s House at Baylor (Saturday 17 Dec.)

WHAT KINDS OF TOYS ARE NEEDED: New (hospital sanitation issues) and UN-wrapped (the hospitals needs to see what the children are receiving)…

WHAT KINDS OF TOYS?: Boys and girls needed equally. Toys for older children (teens) especially needed (i.e. board games, inexpensive video toys, G-rated movie DVDs, etc.)

SIZE LIMITATIONS: None. We have actually given new bicycles that were donated. Nothing too big or too small…

CAN NON-MILITARY PERSONNEL HELP DELIVER TO CHILDREN?:  The access to patients is very limited and the hospitals do not allow photos of patients to be taken.  Soldiers and a limited amount of immediate family helped to sort toys.  Then delivered by Hospital Staff and Soldiers.

MORE INFORMATION?: In Lewisville, Please contact Warrant Officer John Gorena at 972-315-0496 or email. For media or if you are interested in having a collection site, please contact one of our Texas State Guard chaplains:
