Quotable Quotes

"The ongoing migration of persons to the United States in violation of our laws is a serious national problem detrimental to the interests of the United States." - Ronald Reagan, 1981

"Tis our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world.."
 - George Washington (1796)

"Commerce with all nations, alliance with none, should be our motto."
 - Thomas Jefferson (1799)

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American ... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag ... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
- Theodore Roosevelt 1907

09-01-2007: Texas Straw Poll

I attended the Republican Texas Straw poll.  It was basically an opportunity for officially active republican party participants called Delegates to give the national GOP their choice for who should be on the Ballot.  Only a fraction of those expected attended.  There were many guests there also.

John Gorena and Duncan Hunter    I was VERY impressed with California Senator Duncan Hunter and was disappointed that Tom Tancredo was unable to attend.  I spoke with Duncan Hunter for about 10 minutes on Friday as attendance was really slim Friday morning - lucky me!  Saturday was the big day but the masses did not attend as expected.  Duncan Hunter was very busy meeting everyone.  I mean everyone.  Fred Thompson and Ron Paul showed up for the speeches on Saturday and then left.  Then there was a candidate called Ray McKinney who is basically breaking all odds as a normal (non politician) as a listed candidate.  He had a great speech which was truly from the heart and very logical and got more votes that some more well known politicians.  It is my opinion that the ranking of this poll was influenced by their presence at the poll and meeting the people.  If they did not attend, then the media bias seems to have a great influence.

Texas Straw Poll Results
41.1% Duncan Hunter (534 votes)
